Seoul:Foreign Minister Cho Hyun has emphasized the need for stronger cooperation among South Korea, China, and Japan to foster peace and prosperity in their region.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho made these remarks during a meeting on Tuesday with Tatsushi Nishioka, the secretary-general of the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS), alongside Deputy Secretaries-General Kim Han-kyu from South Korea and Li Jing from China. The meeting was held to congratulate them on their recent appointments.
The TCS, established in Seoul in 2011 following a proposal from South Korea during the second trilateral summit in 2009, is dedicated to enhancing collaboration among the three nations. It administers various programs, including initiatives that promote people-to-people exchanges.
During the discussions, Cho highlighted the significance of cooperation between Seoul, Beijing, and Tokyo in advancing the practical interests of their citizens and in achieving regional peace and prosperity. He reaffirmed South Korea's commitment to actively facilitating dialogue and finding common ground among the three countries. Cho also urged the TCS to act as a communication platform for these efforts.
The TCS officials expressed their gratitude for Seoul's support as the host country and committed to strengthening trilateral cooperation through diverse joint initiatives. The role of secretary-general, which rotates among South Korea, Japan, and China every three years, is currently held by leadership that will serve through August 31, 2029.
