FM Cho Expresses Condolences to Victims of Lisbon Funicular Derailment

Seoul: Foreign Minister Cho Hyun on Thursday extended condolences to victims of a funicular derailment in Lisbon that killed at least 15 people and injured several others. Cho posted the message on social media platform X after the foreign ministry confirmed that a South Korean woman was among the injured when the popular railway car in the capital of Portugal derailed and crashed on Wednesday (local time).

According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho expressed his concern over the tragic incident, stating, "I am deeply concerned to hear about the funicular accident in Portugal. I extend my heartfelt condolences to all those affected and wish for their swift recovery." He further added, "My thoughts and prayers are with Portugal."

The ministry is actively checking whether additional South Koreans were affected by the accident and has vowed to provide necessary consular assistance to those in need.
