Flexibility key to advancing N. Korea denuclearization: minister

SEOUL, Oct. 4 (Yonhap) — South Korea’s top diplomat on Thursday stressed the need for flexibility in denuclearization talks with North Korea and called for a bold approach that differs from that of past negotiations.

Her message came days ahead of U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s fourth trip to Pyongyang in less than a year.

“It’s necessary to match denuclearization measures and reciprocal ones, which North Korea needs, with flexibility,” Kang said at a press conference.

The U.S. is open to “some flexibility,” although details of which will depend on upcoming high-level dialogue with the North, she added.
