Fire Erupts at SPC Samlip Plant in Siheung

Siheung: A fire broke out at a factory owned by confectionery company SPC Samlip on Tuesday, authorities said, with no casualties reported so far. The plant in Siheung, some 30 kilometers southwest of Seoul, caught fire around 3 p.m., prompting an immediate response from emergency services.

According to Yonhap News Agency, approximately 70 firefighters and other personnel were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the blaze and search for potential victims. The firefighting authorities issued a Level 1 response, which involves the mobilization of up to 50 pieces of equipment from three to seven fire stations. The quick response aimed to control the fire and ensure the safety of those in the vicinity.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage to the plant have not yet been determined. Firefighting teams are continuing their efforts to completely extinguish the blaze and assess any risks of re-ignition. The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols at industrial facilities in the area and the capacity of emergency services to handle such emergencies swiftly.
