Cheonan: Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol on Monday emphasized the need for intensified efforts to secure a stable supply of essential food items in anticipation of the upcoming Lunar New Year. He made these comments during a visit to a traditional market in Cheonan, situated approximately 85 kilometers south of Seoul, in order to assess the progress of government initiatives aimed at stabilizing prices throughout the holiday period, which spans from February 16 to 18.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Koo highlighted the potential for increased consumer price perception due to the overlapping demand for holiday food items. He called upon relevant ministries to effectively manage the supply of items susceptible to price fluctuations and advocated for the continuation of discount programs in the remaining period leading up to the holiday.

The ministry had previously announced plans to enhance discount support for everyday goods during the holiday season and to expand the variety of products eligible for discount events associated with state-issued gift certificates. During his visit, Koo also engaged with merchants to understand the challenges they face concerning the expansion of discount promotions.
