Seoul: Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol has urged South Korea's leading science and technology institutions to spearhead a transformation of the national economy through AI-centered "super innovation." Koo emphasized the importance of moving away from a catch-up economy to a leading one by fostering a super-innovation economic ecosystem.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Koo addressed the leaders of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology, and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology during a recent meeting. He highlighted the need for these institutions to focus their efforts on enhancing corporate competitiveness through AI technologies.
Koo stressed the role of these institutions as key regional innovation hubs, tasked with advancing strategic industries specific to their regions. He called for them to play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing startups that leverage AI for innovation.
In response, the institution heads committed to fostering creative talent capable of leading future industries. The finance ministry reported that they also promised to support the public in improving AI skills, thereby contributing to the development of a super-innovation economy.
