Applications for fellowships for the 19th Lopez Jaena Community Journalism Workshop on July 27-29, 2016 are now open.
Organized by the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication (UP CMC) since 1985, this year's workshop will focus on "Reporting Disasters."
Resource persons in the workshop include disaster and climate change experts from the academe, government and nongovernmental organizations and senior journalists led by Sen. and UPCMC alumna Loren Legarda, who was recognized as a "Global Champion for Resilience" at the Paris UN Climate Conference in December 2015.
This year's workshop will also feature an introductory session on Data Journalism using datasets provided by the Department of Education under the University of the Philippines program "Data Science and Society: Applications in Public Education."
Practising print, broadcast, online, multimedia journalists with at least two years of working experience are encouraged to apply for the fellowship. They must submit an application letter; resume; two published/broadcast news reports; a story plan for a feature or in-depth report on disaster; and an endorsement from their editor, local press club president or a Lopez Jaena Community Journalism Workshop alumnus.
