Seoul: A woman in her 40s was killed and nine others injured after a taxi crashed into two vehicles in central Seoul, police said Friday. The accident unfolded around 6:05 p.m. in front of Jonggak Station, where the taxi initially collided with a car, then a traffic pole at a crosswalk, and finally another vehicle.

According to Yonhap News Agency, pedestrians waiting to cross the street were struck by the taxi during the incident. The taxi driver, a man in his late 70s, showed no signs of alcohol or drug use, police reported. The woman who died was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest but succumbed to her injuries.

Among the nine injured, four individuals experienced pain in their pelvis and knees and were subsequently taken to hospitals. Among them was one Indian national, while three Indonesian nationals were among those not requiring hospitalization. A witness recounted hearing a loud noise and seeing smoke, noting the rapid arrival of an ambulance that attended to a woman bleeding on the ground.
