Ex-lawmaker Chae Yi-bae Named New Chief of Staff to PM

Seoul: Former lawmaker Chae Yi-bae has been appointed as the new chief of staff to Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, as announced by her office on Friday. Chae will officially assume the role on Saturday, taking on the responsibility of being Han's top aide.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Chae served as a member of the National Assembly from 2016 to 2020. His background as a certified public accountant and his expertise in economics have been highlighted as significant assets for his new role. Previously, Chae held positions that focused on promoting fair competition, including serving as a special assistant to the prime minister for fair economy in 2021 under then Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum.

Chae's career and expertise are anticipated to be instrumental in assisting Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, who has prioritized inclusive growth. The prime minister's office has expressed confidence in Chae's ability to support initiatives aimed at the recovery of individuals' livelihoods, as well as achieving advancements in artificial intelligence and green transformation.

At 51 years old, Chae is an alumnus of Korea University, where he also completed master's degree coursework at the university's school of law.
