Cheongdo: A former chief of the southeastern county of Cheongdo was found dead Monday, police said, while facing an investigation over corruption and other allegations. Rescue workers recovered the body of Kim Ha-soo on a mountain at around 7 a.m., along with a note apparently written by him, a police official said, without disclosing details.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim had been booked on suspicion of receiving illegal funds from a public servant in exchange for a promotion during his time in office from 2022 until earlier this year. A man suspected of delivering the bribe was found dead earlier. Separately, the former county chief had been referred to the prosecution for allegedly breaking into the home of a nursing home director in January.
Kim ran for reelection in the June 3 local elections on the ticket of the main opposition People Power Party but lost to independent candidate Park Kwon-hyun.
