Seoul: Doosan Enerbility Co., a major South Korean plant builder, announced it has secured a contract from U.S. nuclear energy firm TerraPower to manufacture key equipment for its small modular reactor (SMR) project currently under construction in the United States. The energy solutions provider under Doosan Group is set to manufacture components including the guard vessel, internal structures, and support structures for TerraPower's Natrium advanced reactor. The company has not disclosed the value of this significant deal.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Natrium reactor is an advanced SMR that combines a sodium-cooled fast reactor with a molten-salt energy storage system. This latest contract follows an agreement the two companies signed in December 2024, which involved conducting preliminary reviews of the three major components for TerraPower's first Natrium reactor. The 345-megawatt unit, which broke ground earlier this year, is currently under construction in Wyoming.

The announcement coincides with Bill Gates, TerraPower's founder and chair, visiting Seoul for discussions with major South Korean companies and government officials. These talks focus on ways to expand cooperation in the nuclear energy sector.
