Doosan Enerbility Secures $1.52 Billion Contract for Saudi Power Plants

Seoul: Doosan Enerbility Co. announced Thursday that it has secured a 2.2 trillion-won (US$1.52 billion) contract to construct two combined cycle power plants in Saudi Arabia.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean company has signed an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the development of the Luma 1 and Nairiyah 1 power plants. Each plant will have a capacity of 1,800 megawatts and will be built in the Middle Eastern nation.

The project is part of a larger construction initiative led by a consortium that includes South Korea's state-run Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO), Saudi Arabia's largest private independent power producer, and the Saudi Electricity Company. The construction was commissioned following an international bidding process conducted by the Saudi Power Procurement Company.

Lee Hyun-ho, head of Doosan Enerbility's plant EPC division, stated that the contract highlights the company's construction proficiency and competitiveness in the global energy sector, especially as energy demands in the Middle East continue to rise.
