Seoul: Doosan Bobcat, a South Korean construction equipment manufacturer, announced that its U.S. subsidiary has initiated multiple lawsuits against American construction giant Caterpillar Inc. The allegations involve the infringement of Doosan Bobcat's patent rights.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Doosan Bobcat North America, also known as Bobcat Company, has filed complaints in several jurisdictions. These include the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, the U.S. International Trade Commission, the Unified Patent Court of the European Union, and a federal court in Germany. The company has accused Caterpillar of infringing on 14 of its patents.

"Bobcat Company is taking these legal actions to protect our patented technologies, defend fair competition and safeguard the innovation and craftsmanship that have defined our company for more than 65 years," the company stated. The patents in question are pivotal to technologies that enhance key performance attributes such as maneuverability, power, efficiency, and overall machine performance.

The company elaborated that these technologies are integral to their machines' strength, versatility, and precision, and are crucial for the future of Bobcat innovation. They drive advancements across their product lineup and ensure that each machine is deserving of the Bobcat brand.

In a related development, Doosan Bobcat revealed that it is contemplating the acquisition of German construction equipment manufacturer Wacker Neuson SE. However, the company clarified that no definitive decision has been reached regarding this potential acquisition.

The announcement of these legal actions and the potential acquisition had a positive impact on Doosan Bobcat's stock, which jumped 4.96 percent to 59,300 won. This performance significantly outpaced the broader Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI), which saw a gain of 1.04 percent.
