Dodgers’ Kim Hye-seong Secures First Hit in Spring Training

Glendale: Three games into his inaugural spring training with the Los Angeles Dodgers, South Korean utility player Kim Hye-seong has achieved his first hit. Kim delivered a 1-for-2 performance, including a walk, coming off the bench during the Dodgers' 8-3 victory over the San Diego Padres at Camelback Ranch. According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim replaced the starting shortstop Mookie Betts in the lineup in the bottom of the fourth inning. He managed to secure an infield single against pitcher Eduarniel Nunez. Primarily playing as a second baseman in the Korea Baseball Organization, Kim took over at shortstop and later transitioned to center field, where he recorded two putouts. Kim is currently batting 1-for-6 with two walks over three spring training games. He is striving to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster for the 2024 World Series champions, despite facing competition from other middle infielders and utility players. In related news, Pittsburgh Pirates' South Korean player Bae Ji-hwan marked his spring training debut by going 1-for-2 and scoring a run. Bae, starting in center field, hit a double in the fifth inning, contributing to a 5-1 victory against the Minnesota Twins at LECOM Park in Bradenton, Florida. Meanwhile, another South Korean player, Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants, did not participate in his team's 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds.
