Los Angeles: Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Kim Hye-seong and San Francisco Giants' Lee Jung-hoo showcased impressive performances with multihit games, while the Pittsburgh Pirates made a roster change involving South Korean outfielder Bae Ji-hwan.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Hye-seong of the Dodgers continued his remarkable form, achieving three consecutive multihit games. Batting ninth, Kim went 2-for-3 against the Los Angeles Angels at Dodger Stadium. This performance elevated his batting average from .429 to .452. Kim also tied a Dodgers rookie record with a nine consecutive on-base streak, previously set by Corey Seager in September 2015.
During Friday's game, Kim hit singles in his first two at-bats and managed an infield hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, his impressive on-base streak concluded in the eighth inning when he grounded out to first base. Despite Kim's efforts, the Dodgers lost the game 6-2.
Meanwhile, at Oracle Park in San Francisco, Lee Jung-hoo contributed significantly to the Giants' 9-1 victory over the Athletics. Lee's 2-for-5 performance extended his hitting streak to five games. His first hit came in the fifth inning with a single off starter JP Sears, followed by a double against reliever Matt Krook in the sixth inning. Lee now boasts a .289 batting average and leads the team with 12 doubles.
In other Major League Baseball news, the Pittsburgh Pirates made a strategic move by optioning Bae Ji-hwan to Triple-A Indianapolis. This decision was made to accommodate Nick Solak, who was called up from the minors. Bae, who played two games early in the season, was previously sent to Triple-A on April 3 and recalled on May 9. In his recent stint with the Pirates, Bae batted 1-for-7 with two steals in five games.
