Disability Rights Activists Announce Resumption of Subway Protests in Seoul

Seoul: A disability rights activist group said Tuesday it will resume its subway protests in Seoul this week, following a six-month hiatus. The Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination (SADD) has confirmed that these demonstrations will occur during morning rush hours starting Thursday inside Seoul City Hall Station.

According to Yonhap News Agency, SADD is urging Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon to reinstate the 400 laid-off workers who were employed under the city's rights-centered public jobs program. This program, which aimed to provide employment for the severely disabled, was initiated in 2020 but was abolished in 2024.

In addition to the subway protests, the group plans to conduct a separate demonstration by boarding buses throughout Seoul. This bus protest is scheduled to take place every Wednesday at 8 a.m. in the central Jongno Ward starting this week.
