Defense Chiefs of South Korea and U.S. Commit to Enhanced Cooperation on Deterrence and Shipbuilding

Seoul: South Korea's Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back engaged in his inaugural phone call with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, during which both leaders agreed to bolster collaboration on extended deterrence measures against North Korean threats and to strengthen shipbuilding efforts. According to Yonhap News Agency, Minister Ahn, serving as the first defense minister under the Lee Jae Myung administration, emphasized the significant responsibility of advancing the longstanding 70-year South Korea-U.S. alliance. Ahn referred to the alliance as one forged in blood, underscoring its historical importance and the critical need for continued cooperation in defense strategies. The discussions between Ahn and Hegseth mark a pivotal step in reaffirming the commitment of both nations to address emerging security challenges and enhance their military capabilities through joint initiatives and technological developments in shipbuilding.
