DeChambeau Wins Inaugural LIV Golf Korea Tournament

Incheon: The two-time major champion Bryson DeChambeau was crowned the inaugural winner of LIV Golf Korea on Sunday. DeChambeau shot a six-under 66 in the final round at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon, located approximately 30 kilometers west of Seoul, to achieve a 19-under finish after 54 holes at the first LIV Golf tournament held in South Korea. DeChambeau, who holds two U.S. Open titles and now captains the Crushers Golf Club (GC), managed to hold off Charles Howell III by two strokes, marking his first LIV Golf victory since September 2023.

According to Yonhap News Agency, DeChambeau secured US$4 million as the individual winner, while his team, Crushers GC, received $3 million for being the top-scoring team. Howell III mounted a strong challenge by making five consecutive birdies starting at the 11th hole to tie with DeChambeau at the top. However, after Howell III bogeyed at the 16th, DeChambeau clinched the victory with two straight birdies.

Kim Min-kyu, a player from the DP World Tour who participated as a temporary injury replacement, emerged as the top South Korean player, finishing in a tie for 42nd place at two-over par overall, after shooting 77 on Sunday. Meanwhile, Jang Yu-bin, who joined the Iron Heads GC in December as the first South Korean national in LIV Golf, struggled to break out of his season-long slump, ending in a tie for 48th. Throughout seven tournaments as a LIV Golf rookie, Jang, the 2024 KPGA Korean Tour Player of the Year, has yet to finish higher than 23rd.

This tournament marked the first time LIV Golf was held in South Korea since the Saudi Arabia-funded tour's launch in 2022.
