Daegu FC Secures Spot in K League 1 After Thriller Against Chungnam Asan.

Daegu: Daegu FC will remain in South Korea's elite football league, K League 1, following a dramatic playoff victory over Chungnam Asan FC. The team triumphed 3-1 in the second leg, ensuring their place in the top division with a 6-5 aggregate win. According to Yonhap News Agency, the playoff was a nail-biter, with Daegu FC's Lee Chan-dong scoring the decisive goal during extra time. Brazilian forwards Cesinha and Edgar also contributed to the victory by scoring a goal each. Despite going down to ten men, Chungnam Asan FC had initially kept the contest alive by winning the first leg 4-3. Daegu FC found themselves fighting for their top-tier status after finishing 11th in the 12-club K League 1, while Chungnam Asan sought their first-ever promotion after securing second place in the 13-club K League 2. The game began with Daegu establishing dominance early, resulting in Cesinha's goal during stoppage time of the first half. Edgar added to Daegu's tally by cleverly redirecting a shot into the goal in the 83r d minute. However, drama ensued when Edgar was penalized for a handball, gifting Chungnam Asan a penalty which Juninho converted to level the aggregate score at 5-5. The match took a turn when Chungnam Asan's Josepablo Monreal received a red card, reducing the team to ten players. Daegu capitalized on this advantage with Lee Chan-dong's extra-time goal, securing the aggregate win and ensuring their stay in K League 1. In another playoff battle, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors edged past Seoul E-Land FC 2-1 in their first leg at Mokdong Stadium. The clash saw Tiago Orobo and Jeon Jin-woo score for Jeonbuk, while Osmar netted for Seoul E-Land. The second leg of this fixture is scheduled for next Sunday at Jeonju World Cup Stadium, as Jeonbuk aims to maintain their unbroken record in K League 1.
