Court Postpones Hearing of DP Candidate’s Retrial After Presidential Vote

Seoul: The Seoul High Court on Wednesday postponed the hearing of Democratic Party (DP) presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung that had been scheduled for next week over an election law violation case to after the June 3 presidential election. The court had initially planned to hold the first session of the trial involving Lee on May 15, after the top court overturned the high court's acquittal of an election law violation case and sent it back for a remanded trial.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the hearing has been rescheduled to after the presidential election to ensure a fair election campaign opportunity for the presidential candidate and to eliminate controversies over the fairness of the trial. The court announced that the hearing will now take place on June 18.

The court emphasized that it continues to make judgments solely in accordance with the Constitution and the law, without any internal or external influence. The Democratic Party had previously urged the court to delay the remanded trial of its presidential candidate.
