Seoul: A Seoul court has granted permission for the live broadcast of the upcoming sentencing trial of former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, set to take place later this week. Han is facing charges related to abetting former President Yoon Suk Yeol's imposition of martial law. The Seoul Central District Court announced that Wednesday's sentencing hearing will be aired live, making it the second such event to be televised among cases related to the insurrection charges.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the televised proceedings follow a similar broadcast of former President Yoon's sentencing trial, which included charges of obstructing investigators' attempts to detain him last year. Han's case is part of a broader investigation by three special counsels into allegations against Yoon, former first lady Kim Keon Hee, and the 2023 death of a Marine.

Han Duck-soo has been indicted on multiple charges, including abetting the ringleader of an insurrection, playing a pivotal role in the martial law declaration, and committing perjury. Special counsel Cho Eun-suk's team has recommended a 15-year prison sentence for Han, a demand made during the final hearing in November.

The decision to broadcast the trial is part of an effort to maintain transparency in high-profile legal proceedings, ensuring public access to significant judicial decisions involving national figures.
