Seoul: E-commerce giant Coupang Inc. announced on Thursday that it has successfully recovered all personal information leaked from approximately 3,000 customers and confirmed that no data was transferred outside the company.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Coupang identified a former employee as the source of the data leak through forensic evidence. The individual confessed to accessing customer information and provided a detailed account of the breach.
The company revealed that the suspect had used stolen security keys to access basic customer information from around 33 million accounts. Despite this breach, data from only about 3,000 accounts was saved and subsequently deleted by the suspect.
Coupang's internal investigation found no evidence that any customer data was shared with or transmitted to third parties. The company has also taken measures to secure all devices used in accessing and storing customer information, including a hard drive.
