Seoul: Coupang Inc. Chief Executive Officer Park Dae-jun announced on Wednesday that the company will "proactively review" compensation for users affected by a recent data breach. The breach compromised the personal information of 33.7 million customers.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Park made this statement during a parliamentary session when questioned about the company's plans to address the damages incurred by the affected users. While Park confirmed the intention to consider compensation, he did not provide a specific timeline, stating that the company is still evaluating the extent of the damage.
The breach, discovered last week, revealed that sensitive information such as names, phone numbers, email addresses, and delivery details of nearly all Coupang members had been exposed. This incident affects a large portion of Coupang's user base, as the platform boasts 34 million monthly active users as of November. The company is a major player in South Korea's e-commerce market, known for its overnight delivery of fresh food and daily necessities.
