Seoul: Comedian Park Na-rae, embroiled in harassment allegations by her former managers, filed a countercomplaint against them claiming they threatened her with false allegations and demanded money, her agency said Saturday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the star of the "I Live Alone" variety show is accused of harassing them, with verbal abuse and assaults, and demanding tasks unrelated to her official schedules. An agency official stated that the company lodged the complaint with Yongsan Police Station, seeking extortion charges against the two former managers.
Her agency has claimed that the ex-managers demanded compensation worth hundreds of millions of won and that it will take legal action against them. Park's side also denied embezzlement allegations raised by them and said it is collecting information to file a separate complaint against at least one of the two for suspected embezzlement.
The controversy surrounding Park has cast a shadow over her career as a variety show co-host. Public broadcaster MBC reportedly canceled filming of the upcoming travel reality show "Nado Sinna," which means "I Am Excited Too," after the allegations surfaced.
Park debuted as a comedian in 2006 and has since become a household name in the country's entertainment industry. She won the Grand Prize at the 2019 MBC Entertainment Awards and the Best Female Variety Performer from the 2020 Baeksang Arts Awards. She currently makes regular appearances on MBC's long-running popular show "I Live Alone" and "Where is My Home," as well as tvN's "Amazing Saturday." She is also scheduled to appear on several new programs.
