Seoul: The final score read 7-3 in favor of FC Barcelona against FC Seoul in their latest preseason match, but head coach Hansi Flick is calling for more from his squad. Barca, a globally renowned football club, carries high expectations both internally and externally.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Flick expressed satisfaction with the beginning of the match but noted a lapse in intensity that led to mistakes. "The first half, I saw a really good beginning," Flick commented following the victory at Seoul World Cup Stadium. "And then we got a little bit lazy, and we had some mistakes. We have to stop this because we want to play on our best level. This is what I wanted to see in the second half. I think you saw it also that it was very good from the young team."
Flick's strategy involved starting with key players such as Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Frenkie de Jong in the first half. The entire lineup was switched at halftime, allowing younger talent, including 19-year-old Gavi, to gain valuable playing time. Flick planned this to prevent injuries and ensure player well-being, limiting each player's time on the field to 45 minutes.
Despite Yamal and Ferran Torres each scoring twice, Flick highlighted Gavi's significant impact and praised his midfield versatility. "Before (the match), it was clear that he'd play 30 minutes, and then we wanted to change," Flick said. "But as captain (for the second half), he is always pushing the team. This is what I want to see exactly. It's very good to see that he's on this level."
Frenkie de Jong, who joined Flick at the press conference, acknowledged FC Seoul as formidable opponents. "They had a lot of quality. They made life difficult for us, especially in the first half and they have some good players as a team," the Dutch midfielder stated. "They're good to try to play football from the back. So I think they're a good team, and they can compete for a lot of stuff here in Korea and in the Asian Champions League."
