Seoul: CJ Foodville Corp., the restaurant arm of the CJ Group, has announced the termination of its advertising contract with actor Kim Soo-hyun following a dating scandal. The decision comes despite the company's recent renewal of their partnership with Kim for its bakery chain, Tour les Jours, in September. This renewed partnership came after a previous collaboration from 2012 to 2015.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the contract was initially set to end later this month, but due to the controversy surrounding Kim Soo-hyun, CJ Foodville has opted not to extend the agreement. The scandal involves allegations of a romantic relationship between Kim and the late actress Kim Sae-ron during her underage years, allegations that Kim's agency has denied.
Kim Sae-ron, known for her roles in "The Man from Nowhere" and "The Neighbors," tragically passed away last month at the age of 24. The ensuing controversy has also affected Homeplus Co., which recently engaged Kim as a brand ambassador. A spokesperson from Homeplus stated that their recent two-week deal with the actor concluded on Wednesday, and the company is now assessing the situation before considering any future contracts.
Homeplus had previously employed Kim in three promotional campaigns last year to enhance sales. Furthermore, outdoor fashion brand Eider has removed advertisements featuring Kim from their website and social media platforms. These ads were launched last month by K2 Korea Group Co., which owns the clothing brand.
Kim Soo-hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, has announced that the actor plans to address the allegations next week, though no further details were provided.
