Seoul: CJ ENM confirmed it will hold the 2025 MAMA Awards, one of the most prominent K-pop year-end music events, as planned in Hong Kong later this week, despite a significant fire at an apartment complex in the city. "We are carefully preparing the overall stage setup and proceedings to ensure the performance conveys comfort and hope rather than merely dazzling production," said CJ ENM, the operator of the annual music show. "We will make the 2025 MAMA Awards an event that demonstrates responsibility and does its utmost until the very end."

According to Yonhap News Agency, CJ ENM announced plans to hold a moment of remembrance for the fire victims and make a donation to support those affected. The 2025 MAMA Awards is set to take place on Friday and Saturday at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong, marking the show's return to the city after seven years.

Questions had emerged regarding the fate of the Hong Kong show following the fire at Wang Fuk Court, which began on Wednesday, resulting in at least 55 deaths and approximately 280 individuals still unaccounted for. Although CJ ENM did not specify any program changes, local media indicated that the red carpet event and fireworks might be canceled.

In the wake of the tragedy, South Korea's pop music community has stepped up to support rescue efforts and aid victims of the fire. SM Entertainment announced a donation of 1 million Hong Kong dollars (US$128,000) to the Hong Kong Red Cross, aimed at assisting firefighting, rescue, and providing daily necessities.

Additionally, the girl group aespa has pledged to contribute 500,000 Hong Kong dollars, expressing their condolences and hopes for the safety of all affected. "We express our deepest sorrow regarding this heartbreaking news," aespa shared through their official Weibo account. "We hope this small contribution can help, and we pray for everyone's safety."

Boy band Riize also committed to donating 250,000 Hong Kong dollars, hoping their contribution will aid in rescue operations and ongoing assistance efforts.
