Cambodia Joyfully Celebrates Second River Festival
The Second River Festival 2016, taking place in Kampong Cham and Thbong Khmum provinces under the theme "Clean River, Best Community," has ended two days ago with good memory and expectation for a more joyful event next year, a local tourist said.
Mrs. Cheng Sam Ay, a Phnom Penh resident who attended the celebration on the second day, said it was an amazing event. "I felt really happy when I and my family had the chance to join the event in Kampong Cham, on Saturday last week," she said.
The Second River Festival was organised by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, local authorities and many other partners. This is a national event to promote natural tourism in the provinces along the Mekong River that is more prosperous and attractive to national and international tourists, and it also generates direct income to local community, said H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism.
Different activities, including live concert, musical entertainment, food and beverage exhibition, domestic and commercial products show, tree plantation, artistic performance, sports activities, etc., and firework display, were organised on the occasion.
According to Kampong Cham Provincial Tourism Department, the three-day event attracted a total of over 550,000 local and foreign visitors.
Mr. Sean Sakun, Director of Kampong Cham Provincial Tourism Department, said products and services were displayed on 500 booths along a two-kilometer sidewalk.
The 1st River Festival was held in Kratie province with the participation of around 100,000 people.
