Seoul: K-pop sensation BTS is in discussions to host a significant performance in central Seoul as part of their eagerly-anticipated comeback in March, industry sources revealed on Monday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hybe, the entertainment company managing BTS, has submitted an application to the Korea Heritage Service (KHS) to secure permission for a performance featuring the globally renowned septet at historical locations such as Gyeongbok Palace, Gwanghwamun, and the Woldae area, as well as the Sungnyemun gate.

The proposed event, tentatively named "K-heritage and K-pop fusion concert," aims to create a unique blend of traditional Korean culture and modern pop music. To proceed, the Cultural Heritage Committee, an advisory body of the KHS, will evaluate the application on Tuesday.

In addition to this, the Seoul metropolitan government is set to hold an advisory meeting by Friday to decide on granting permission for the use of Gwanghwamun Square. The decision will be heavily influenced by the submission of a comprehensive safety plan designed to prevent any crowd-related incidents, as emphasized by officials.

A representative from Hybe informed Yonhap News Agency that "discussions are under way," and assured that specific details regarding the venue and scheduling will be shared after finalization.

BTS's anticipated return on March 20 with their fifth studio album, "Arirang," marks their first full-group comeback in almost four years. The album is said to encapsulate the group's Korean identity, evoking a profound sense of longing and affection deeply rooted in their heritage.

This would not mark BTS's inaugural performance at the royal palace. In 2020, the group filmed performances at the palace's Geunjeongjeon hall and the Gyeonghoeru pavilion for NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."
