Ulsan: The body of another worker was recovered Sunday from under the rubble following last week's deadly collapse of a boiler tower at a thermal power plant in the southeastern city of Ulsan. The tragic incident has added to the growing concerns over safety protocols at demolition sites.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the collapse occurred at the Ulsan branch of Korea East-West Power Co., a state-run utility, last Thursday while the boiler tower was in the process of being demolished. The initial collapse trapped seven workers, prompting an urgent rescue operation.

As rescue efforts continued, firefighters retrieved the body of a 44-year-old victim from the debris on Sunday morning. This tragic discovery followed the recovery of two bodies last Friday. Authorities reported that the man had died on Friday morning as he awaited rescue beneath the collapsed structure.

With Sunday's recovery, the confirmed death toll from the collapse has risen to three. Officials indicated that two other workers are presumed dead and are believed to still be trapped under the debris. The exact locations of these remaining workers have not yet been determined.

The 60-meter-tall boiler tower was in the process of being weakened for demolition after its operations were suspended in 2021, following 40 years of use. The incident has raised significant questions about the structural integrity and demolition procedures of aging infrastructure.
