Seoul: Amazon Web Services (AWS) Korea LLC has unveiled plans to invest 7 trillion won (US$4.6 billion) in South Korea by 2031, aiming to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure. Under its recent information protection filing posted on the Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA) online portal, AWS Korea highlighted that this investment comes in addition to the 5.6 trillion won already invested in the country.
According to Yonhap News Agency, AWS Korea's combined investment of 12.6 trillion won represents the largest commitment by a global cloud service provider in South Korea. The company aims to fully implement generative AI in security investigations through its cybersecurity services and plans to extend its reach into the public and financial sectors within the country.
Ham Kee-ho, the country managing director of AWS Korea, emphasized the company's focus on information security, stating, "Information security is a top priority at AWS, and securing customer trust is the foundation of our business." He added that AWS is dedicated to continuing its investments to ensure Korean companies have a secure foundation throughout their AI adoption journey.
