Arson Suspect Admits to Setting Fires in Gangnam, Injuring 19

Accra:Seoul A man suspected of starting fires at two buildings in the southern Seoul district of Gangnam has largely confessed to planning and executing the arson, police reported on Wednesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the fires occurred on Tuesday and resulted in injuries to 19 people, including one individual who was taken to the hospital with cardiac arrest. The suspect, a man in his 70s, was apprehended by police hours after the incidents.

The suspect allegedly targeted two separate patent firms located in the buildings. He informed investigators that he purchased two jerrycans, a lighter, and flammable materials near his residence in western Seoul last Friday. The suspect claimed that the patent firms had defrauded him by issuing fake patent registration certificates, motivating him to scare them and bring attention to the issue.

Police have stated that they intend to seek a warrant for the suspect's formal arrest on charges of arson resulting in injury, following further questioning.
