The newly appointed Argentinian ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Alfredo Carlos Bascou, visited National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang on August 8.
During their conversation, the speaker explained that the National Assembly had recently launched parliamentary diplomacy forums covering 12 countries and regions, and that Kim Moo-sung, a six-term Assemblyman, will lead the ROK-Latin America forum. He added that the National Assembly plans to host a dinner for the ambassadors of the 12 countries and regions, and expressed his wish that the diversified diplomatic channels would help to deepen the ROK-Argentina relationship as well.
Ambassador Bascou noted that more exchanges and diplomatic action at the parliamentary level would play a vital role in developing the friendship between the ROK and his country. He also said that it was time for the two countries to tighten their cooperation, particularly in the economic and business arenas, and expressed his wish for progress in the Mercosur-ROK trade agreement, which is under negotiation.
The meeting attendees also included Senior Secretary to the Speaker for Policy Choi Gwang-pil, National Assembly Spokesman Han Min-su, Special Adviser to the Speaker for Foreign Affairs Han Chung-hui, and Director General of the International Affairs and Protocol Bureau Park Hui-seok.
