Suwon: An appellate court sentenced two Taiwanese nationals to suspended prison terms Monday for illegally filming U.S. military aircraft during an air show in May. The Suwon District Court upheld a lower court ruling of 1 1/2 years in prison, suspended by three years, for the two suspects, each in their 40s and 60s.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the court emphasized that the photos taken by the defendants had been confiscated, reducing the likelihood of them being leaked externally. The court noted that since their apprehension in May, the two individuals had been held in custody for a period considered sufficient for them to reflect on their actions.

The Taiwanese nationals faced charges of attending an unauthorized air show at Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, approximately 60 kilometers south of Seoul, on May 10. During the event, they took around a dozen photos of U.S. military aircraft and facilities without permission. The U.S. military had imposed a ban on citizens from certain nations, including China and Taiwan, from attending the show.
