Seoul: Agriculture Minister Song Mi-ryung announced on Tuesday that the South Korean government is set to devise a comprehensive strategy to amplify the country's burgeoning food exports, driven by the soaring international appeal of Korean culture.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Song disclosed this initiative during a strategic meeting with key food industry players and experts focused on enhancing South Korea's export strategies. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs reported that the minister highlighted the imminent milestone of K-food exports nearing the US$10 billion annual mark. Song emphasized the government's commitment to crafting an effective strategy to further expand these exports.
In the first ten months of the year, Seoul's agricultural and food product exports reached $8.59 billion, marking a 5 percent increase from the previous year. This growth reflects the increasing global demand for Korean food products, spurred by the widespread popularity of K-culture.
During the meeting, industry leaders underscored the importance of expanding the global consumer base for Korean cuisine by capitalizing on the K-culture phenomenon. They also recognized the potential of integrating advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), into food manufacturing processes to enhance productivity and competitiveness in the international market, as noted by the ministry.
