Seoul: K-pop label ADOR has filed a legal suit against Danielle, a former member of the agency, along with former chief executive Min Hee-jin, seeking approximately 43.1 billion won (US$29.7 million) in compensation, legal sources reported Tuesday. The lawsuit also includes a family member of Danielle and has been assigned to a division at the Seoul Central District Court. This division previously handled a stock dispute between Min and ADOR's parent company, Hybe.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the lawsuit follows ADOR's announcement of terminating Danielle's contract, citing difficulties in continuing her role as a NewJeans member and artist under their management. ADOR has filed for penalties and compensation for damages, although the specific amount requested remains undisclosed. Additionally, the company plans to pursue legal actions against Danielle's family member and Min, accusing them of instigating the dispute and hindering the group's activities.
NewJeans had earlier contested ADOR's decision by advocating for Min's reinstatement after her removal in a power struggle with Hybe. The group claimed their contracts were void due to ADOR's alleged breaches, but the courts upheld ADOR's stance, affirming the contracts' validity and preventing the group from engaging in independent activities.
Despite the legal challenges, ADOR announced that NewJeans member Hanni chose to comply with the court's decision and continue her association with the company. Following this, members Haerin and Hyein expressed their willingness to return, with Hanni, Minji, and Danielle later showing similar inclinations. Discussions with Minji are ongoing, with both parties working toward enhancing mutual understanding.
