Acting President Lee Calls for Highest-Level Defense Posture and Vows Support for Orderly Election

South Korea: South Korea's new acting President Lee Ju-ho has instructed the military to elevate its readiness posture to the "highest level," emphasizing thorough preparations to ensure the upcoming June 3 presidential election proceeds in an orderly and fair manner.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee, who is also the deputy prime minister for social affairs and education minister, issued this directive in an emergency communication to all government ministries, agencies, and public servants. This move follows his assumption of the acting presidency after the resignation of former acting President Han Duck-soo and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Choi Sang-mok.

In his directive, Lee stressed the importance of stable state governance without any vacuum or confusion in state affairs. He instructed acting Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho to enhance military vigilance and preparedness, ensuring the country's military readiness is at its peak to respond rapidly and sternly to any provocations.

Further directives were given to Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Kim Myung-soo to maintain a robust military operational command system and reinforce the readiness posture of all military units to respond swiftly in the event of a contingency.

Lee also tasked Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul with maintaining close cooperation with key friendly nations to uphold international trust in South Korea and to manage diplomatic issues comprehensively.

In preparation for the presidential election, acting Interior Minister Ko Ki-dong was instructed to engage in active consultations with relevant ministries and provincial governments to ensure the election's fairness and orderliness. Moreover, all public servants were urged to maintain strict work discipline and political neutrality.

Lastly, Lee called on acting Finance Minister Kim Beom-suk to prepare against potential financial market volatility and minimize economic uncertainties as part of the broader governmental efforts.
