Seoul: Acting President Choi Sang-mok held a luncheon with participants of last year's WorldSkills Competition on Thursday and lauded their achievement. "In modern industries that demand advanced skills and creativity, the expertise of skilled technicians holds timeless value," Choi said during the luncheon.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Choi emphasized the government's commitment to improving societal recognition of skilled professionals and ensuring they receive the treatment and respect they deserve. South Korea sent 57 contestants to the WorldSkills Lyon 2024, held in September, and secured 10 gold medals, 13 silver, and nine bronze, finishing in second place. It marked the country's best performance since its debut in the competition in 1967.
