Goryeong: A chain collision involving three cargo trucks inside an expressway tunnel in the southeastern county of Goryeong resulted in the death of one person and left another injured, according to local police.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the incident occurred at 12:34 p.m. inside Goryeong 2 Tunnel on the Jungbu Naeryuk Expressway, located approximately 285 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The collision involved a sequence of rear-end crashes among the three trucks.

Authorities reported that a 5-ton truck was completely burned as a result of the collisions, leading to the death of its driver. Another truck driver sustained injuries during the incident. In response, expressway authorities temporarily halted traffic into the tunnel to facilitate firefighting and rescue operations.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze completely by 1:47 p.m. Police are currently investigating the precise cause of the accident, with initial speculation pointing to the collisions as the source of the fire.
