10 Killed, 4 Missing in Daejeon Auto Parts Plant Fire

Daejeon: Ten people have been killed and four others are still reported missing following a fire at a car parts plant in Daejeon. Another 59 individuals sustained serious or minor injuries in the incident.

According to Yonhap News Agency, firefighters have been conducting search operations for the four missing individuals since the blaze erupted. One of the deceased was discovered on the second floor of the factory, while nine others were located on the third floor, as reported by local authorities.

The fire broke out at approximately 1:17 p.m. on Friday, when 170 workers were present in the facility. Initial efforts to enter the burning structure were hindered by fears of a potential collapse. Compounding the challenges faced by emergency responders was the presence of 200 kilograms of sodium within the building, posing a risk of explosion if mishandled.

Authorities initiated overnight search operations at around 10:50 p.m. on Friday, after receiving confirmation from experts that it was safe for firefighters to enter the building.
